Dental Crowns - Cosmetic Dentistry

Repair that weak, misshaped or broken tooth with a dental crown and get that beautiful smile back. Dental crown are caps, shaped to fit your mouth, that fully cover the entire visible portion of a tooth. The crown is then cemented in place at or above the gum line.

Types of Dental Crowns

  • Metals - Gold, nickel, or chromium

  • Full porcelain fused to metal

  • All-resin

  • All-ceramic or all-porcelain

When is a Dental Crown Needed?

  • When a weak tooth needs to be protected

  • When a tooth is cracked

  • When a tooth has been broken or severely worn down

  • When a tooth with a large filling needs to be supported

  • When a dental bridge needs to be held in place

  • When misshaped or severely discolored teeth are present

  • When a dental implant needs to be covered

The Dental Crown Procedure

The first step in the dental crown procedure is to prepare the tooth by removing the surface layer around the tooth in order to get rid of any weak areas. Once the weak areas are removed, you are left with a solid core. The custom made crown is then placed over the core and cemented in place strengthening the tooth. If a porcelain crown is used, it can be indistinguishable from the natural teeth.
